Hearts for Home 4/11/11

I am joining Gae once again in her Hearts for Home weekly list:) It really does help me keep my mind focused on extra little tasks that make the home more "Home-ier".

     1. I will try and finish up the last few touches on my quilt, then see if I can whip up a couple of pillow shams to match with the leftover squares. I am looking forward to searching for vintage hand sewn and trimmed white and pink pillow cases this summer, to make a truly old fassioned romantic place to lay our heads at night!
     2. We finally bought the matching nightstands that go with our bed (we have waited for about 4 years!) and I saved one of the large boxes that they came in. I am going to turn it into a little playhouse for my friends 3 year old for when he comes over with his mother to visit. I use to LOVE cardboard box houses when I was little, and sometimes in the winter my Dad would stop into the local appliance store to pick us up one to decorate as a little house in the basement:)
     3. I want to bake and freeze some sugar cookies, and use my new Easter cookie cutters, for the family Easter party and egg hunt later this month. I might also make up and freeze the 2 or 3 dozen rolls I want to bring. The less I have to do last minute the more I am able to enjoy the day. Not to mention, getting all stressed out is not good, I tend to be more apt to snap at my loving Poot, and I don't like it when I do that:(
     4. I am going to make Poot one of his favorite kinds of cake, just because. A chocolate cake with cool whip for icing. He is not a "frosting" man, and very much prefers cool whip, and he deserves a treat!

So, with those things to keep me busy, I should have a pretty productive week! I look forward to the feeling I get, knowing I have done some nice work for my home:)
God Bless, and have a lovely week!

Hearts for Home 4/5/11

This week's Hearts for Home will be a little less ambitious. I have had a clingy cold for a little more than a week now. I really can't complain, as this is the only cold I have had this season, and it isn't even a very nasty one. But it is a tiring one, so I am going to keep taking things slow and getting lots of rest. Thank the Lord, Poot hasn't caught it, though if he did I wouldn't lie, I would love to have him home for me pamper and nurse:)
     So, the list.
     1. I picked up a few candles in lovely spring scents, I am going to make a point of  lighting candles in the evenings, to make a cozy atmosphere. This spring so far has consisted mostly of slushy snow and freezing rain, so warm, flowery scents go a long way to brightening dark nights.
     2. I really hope my cold improves in the next day or two, because I really need and  want to make some more bread. We have had to get a loaf or two from the store, and after having homemade bread for so long, store bought really does not seem worth eating at all. Plus, with homemade, you get the added benefit of that indescribably delicious aroma, the one people always get a smile on thier faces while remembering. Absolutely nothing beats the smell of baking bread for the "homeyness" award!
     3. I would also like to put my quilt layers together,
The quilt top is finished, and now I am just debating on how I want to go about  finishing it, weather I want to have three layers, or just use a nice fleece blanket as a backing and tie it off. I'll keep thinking on it for another day or two, I don't want to have to take it apart again!
     4. I am also going to need to give the apartment a good scrubbing. I have been doing bare minimum cleaning for the past week or so, and we are in no means living in filth, but I know what needs to be done and what hasn't been done, and its bugging me:) Thankfully, this past weekend my sister came over and brought her very nice vacuum cleaner and carpet shampooer. She and Poot gave the floors a good cleaning, and I am confident NOW the pesky sinus problems I have been having all winter will finally end! What a blessing that will be!
     5. And, I think, since my Poot has been so good to me and he has been doing ALL the cooking (well, bringing home takeout:) I will make him something special. Maybe a batch of his favorite peanut butter balls, using his grandma's recipe. Every now and then you have to spoil you man, especially if he deserves it:)
Well, thats it for tonight, God Bless, and have a wonderful week!

Hearts for Home - 22nd March ♥

I join Gea @ her blog,

In today’s busy and aggressive society mothers at home are not given much encouragement to be committed to their role in being home.

In my weekly 'Hearts for Home' post I am encouraging myself and others to commit to thinking about what 4-6 things we can do each week to bring our thoughts, prayers and actions to keeping our 'Hearts for Home'.

I am praying that a spirit of gentleness, generosity in thoughts and time along with loveliness and grace would lead us to be all that God wants us to be.

I pray also that each person involved in 'Hearts for Home' would also pray for any others involved as well.

May you be blessed by this initiative. I pray it brings you and your family many blessings.

So each week list 4-6 things you will commit to that will keep your "Hearts for Home'.

Please leave a you name and a link to your blog (if you don't have one just leave your list in the comment box) and perhaps a comment so we can all see and encourage each other.

If you would like, add the 'Hearts for Home' logo to your side bar as a reminder of your goals.

God Bless you this week.

    1. This week, I will be working on re-organizing the spare room, I want to keep up the enthusiasm about adoption. I found a delightful nursery wall hanging at a Goodwill store while on vacation, as well as two utterly charming knit dollies, I hope to one day have a daughter to give those too. We really want to provide mostly homemade and handmade gifts to our child/children, and raise them the old fashioned way!
    2. I have been doing a good job thinning out unnecessary and unloved "stuff" from our home, and working hard to decorate it in my own unique way. I hope to put up a post this week to show some of the things I have collected over the years, to make our house a home. I want to continue working on this, and love the way things are looking and feeling around here so far:)
    3. I want to work on the quilt I started last year. I have made some mistakes on it, so that means I am going to have to undo the hand quilting I have already done "ugh!" and fix it. It will be worth it though, to have the centerpiece of our bedroom made with my own hands:)
    4. My wonderful Poot bought me something I have been ogling for simple AGES this past weekend, a Williams and Sonoma mini Tea Cakes pan! I want to bake up a trial batch and see how they come out, I can't wait to throw a tea party this spring!
    5. We have been having some allergy issues this winter, mine have been the worst, and I think it has to do with the fact that this apartment is mostly carpeted. Moving is out of the question, as THIS is the year we really want to start the process of adoption, so we are going to have to come up with other solutions. I think a higher quality vacuum cleaner is in order, and a thorough shampooing of the bedrooms and living room as well. I hope that will do the trick, as the almost daily sinus headaches are very annoying!
    6. I think my "big" cleaning project of the week will be organizing and thinning out the coat closet. It is a tiny space and it is VERY full at the moment, so it need some attention!

Hearts for Home- Ist March

I am joining in with Gae at Cherished hearts at Home in her weekly Hearts for Home challenge. It is open for any to join, just link back to her page:)
The idea is to list 5 or 6 things to make your home a Home! Things that will improve life at home for your loved ones, and yourself of course:)

     1. I am going to be paying LOTS of attention to food this week. I'm trying to up my Poots intake of fruits and veggies, as he needs more fiber in his diet. Well, to tell you the truth, we ALL do! Last night I served three veggies with dinner, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, and broccoli. YUM! We do a lot of frozen foods and root veggies in the winter, as fresh produce is a bit dear at this time of year.
     2. Make up a batch of bread, preferable with some whole grains, to make Poot some sandwiches to take to work for lunches. I think I will be making up my mom's oatmeal molasses bread:)
     3. Get up every morning, and prepare some oatmeal and juice for Poot before he heads to work. THIS is gonna be a toughie, as I am not an early riser, and I will have to be getting up at 5am! So far, for the last two mornings, I have been successful. so wish me luck, and pray I can keep at it:)
     4. I want us to start eating the majority of our dinners at the table. Right now we only eat their once in a while, and I would really like to change that. When at the table, we say a prayer, and talk, and enjoy good food and good friends together, and I want that to be an everyday thing:) Plus, Poot likes it, and HE IS the head of our house, so I should be trying to please him:)
     5. I really should clean out and organize out coat closet this week, its a bit of a mess, and that bugs me! I'll do before and after pictures, maybe the "before" pics will be enough to shame me into keeping it neat in the future!
